Learn more about how to use Periscope and Meerkat for authors. Social media and the internet have exponentially increased the ways that authors can reach new readers and mine previous fans for more vigorous connection. Established social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter provide an easy way for authors to generate excitement about old and new manuscripts, but there are newer tools that promise relationships with new groups and through new mediums.
Live streaming is one: Apps and platforms allow authors to create live video content that engages in real time. Two of the most recognized options are Meerkat and Periscope, which was acquired by Twitter. Both allow you to share live videos, either with the public (Meerkat) or followers (Periscope)—giving you an avenue to discuss appearances, new works, special events, and more.
