    Hi Shelley
I am really greatful to you for providing many immensely helpful resources for new authors wanting to be published. I am at this stage in the process of completing my first book and would certainly need marketing skills for it to be read by millions. I look forward to your emails and support and this endeavour also would be step in that same direction. Really appreciate your helpfulness.
Thanks and all the best for your future efforts

Hi, Congratulation on new site. I hope you can help many more “new” and established authors get their books published, and get them into the hands of the reading public. I have published one novel with other finished manuscripts scheduled for this year and next. What I would like is real help on how to get the word about the novels, name and story line, to the public so they would investigate further and purchase the book. Thanks in advance; I know you always come through for us “newbies” and not so newbies!

I am so glad you did this!! I am on my first book and can use all the help I can get. I have been on your other site soaking up what I can. I also purchased the self publishing book you suggested. I would like to start off with the Amazon route but from there I am not sure where to go. I would like to know DIY ways to get my book from the Internet world into book stores as well, different languages, and audio. I need the baby steps broken down into smaller baby steps. I am also using your writing format (in openoffice). So I would like some guidance in editing (and getting the pages in the right order 🙂 I am in the process of watching all your videos on your youtube channel there are a lot and I have five homeschooled kiddos but I am getting there for sure 😉 thank you for this…you have made my dream of being an author a reality <3

      Jennifer,
It is interesting that you mention different languages as my husband CJ and I were just today working on a plan to start doing exactly that with some of our books. So once I successfully go through the process, I will share it with you.

Getting a book into bookstores is a great topic that I would like to cover as well. Many authors publish on Lightning Source to get their books into the Ingram catalog which bookstores use to make their orders. So, they will publish on both Createspace and Lightning Source. But, LS is a more detailed process and has more upfront costs than Createspace.

Make sure to sign up for our newsletter as I’ll be doing a free training on audiobooks soon: https://www.trainingauthors.com/newsletter/

Also, I have listed some DIY editing options as well as a few recommended editors you can check out here: http://www.self-publishing-coach.com/copy-editing-service.html

And you are very welcome! I’m so glad to hear that you have found the information useful. Keep up the great work! Take one step at a time and before you know it, your book will be published 🙂

I have put you on my vision board cause you rock that much…hoping we will meet someday; I am so happy the Universe had our paths cross. I am for sure starting with Createspace. I am still learning the ins and outs of course. Once I publish it myself with Createspace can I publish with Lightning Source and still have control of the contents? I really want to self publish; I plan on writing a lot (I have a lot to say ;). So I would like to be my own publisher if possible. Thank you for the links…seriously soaking it up!!

I recently finished my first ebook and so far only sell it on my website. I have sold close to thirty books so far.
My problem is getting any feedback from the buyers. I ask for future feedback at the time of sale and then a few days later. So far no responses.
I would really like to hear what they say and what needs improvement.
One good is no one has asked for a refund yet.
    Thanks for your help.

I just posted a request for info about mentoring and I think I posted it to some poor readers comment.
What I actually want is a critique of my marketing plan when it is better articulated.

One thing that I found out that you did not mention was that if you use CreateSpace to publish your book, you can send the book to Kindle with just one click. I did it backwards and it was a lot more work. Next time I will publish on CreateSpace first and then just send the book to Kindly with one click.

What do I suggest? Everybody notes getting a profile and marketing is the big problem, as with reviews. However, what I think could be useful is if such advice is split up into genres, because what works for romance, say, may not work for war stories. On the production side, advice on ebook covers would also be welcome.

Hi, Shelley and Heather. You are so personable that I feel I know you. I always learn something new from you and I look forward to more in coming days. Thanks for all your hard work to make authors shine. I need information particularly geared toward authors of fiction.

Thanks, Deborah! We try to include both the fiction and nonfiction aspects of marketing in all of our trainings as we do know that they differ some.

    Hi shelley and Heather!

I wanted to thank you for your incredible energy. I am a school teacher with a lot of ideas that I would to share with the world. However, I have been postponing my plans, until I came across Shelley’s incredible energy through her writings. I am currently building my website while completing my manuscript for publication. So, http://www.manes-pierre.com is still being built. I provided it for feedback purposes, since I am a novice.

I have a couple of areas of concerns for your consideration. As a novice trying to create cover for my book via create space, it has been extremely difficult for me to follow. I finally was able to create a cover via Kindle, through a link from Amazon.com. Now, I am worried about not being able to duplicate the same exact cover for create space. Now that I have resolved the issue for the book cover, I wonder how I can keep that same cover for create space, since I would like to publish the book as e-book, and print-on-demand. Please share some feedback, if you have a free moment.

By the way, I am in the process of moving from the D.C. area to Florida, the Sunshine State. If you know of any local resources in Tampa, please share.

    Thanks in advance!

    Manes

      Manes,
The book cover for a print book does have to be a higher quality. The images need to be 300dpi and big enough for the cover. So, depending on how you created your Kindle cover, you may not be able to simply use what you have for Kindle for print.

What I normally do is create the print cover first. That way I can crop the front cover and size it for Kindle and eBooks as it will work that way.

It is all a learning experience, isn’t it?

i am sure these topics would have been covered in other places online, but still i it would be good to have them in one. i would like covered:
what are the best or most saleable book genres publishable online.

how to write the book for the particular genre, qualities it should have and how to incorporate those qualities into the book.
what are the most cost-effective methods of promoting a book.
does the author having a website help promotions, in what ways

rather basic questions but for us novices in this field they are vital.
    thanks, shelley and heather…

I would be really interested on tips and useful information for authors trying to maintain a website about their books, all while trying to write and staying on top of social media. With Facebook pages and all the other social media, should I even be trying to keep a website for my books, or do I even need one?

      Thanks for your suggestion Heather!

I think there is definitely a place for both. With a website, it is something you own and control and can send people to for more info about your books, etc. There is a ton you can do with your own site. Facebook is great but if for some reason they ever decided to shut down your profile or page, you would be in a predicament.

      Thanks for stopping by!

As an audiobook producer myself, I have a vested interest in your topic. Most producers will take a royalty share agreement for their time (it’s hard work) if the book has already proven successful on Amazon or other platforms. It’s basically free for the author. Just my two cents. Thanks for the post!

      Brian,
I have use the royalty share method on ACX and have had some great success with it. I also have audiobooks I have recorded myself. Thanks for stopping by and sharing!
