How to Become a Bestselling Author in Your Niche? For starters, study how bestselling authors in your niche write and market their books. When I think of best-selling authors, I think of Beatrix Potter, C.S. Lewis, and Jill Eileen Smith, three of my favorite authors. Right now, I am in the process of learning Beatrix Potter’s art style. I hope to emulate it to the best of my ability with my children’s book, I Am Special. C.S. Lewis is my inspiration for a future adventure novel, Ancient Text.
However, becoming a bestselling author shouldn’t be our sole focus. Our focus should be to write true and, with all due diligence, get our books in the hands of ready readers. We want to make an eternal impact. Although the idea of becoming a bestseller is nice, there’s something more pressing: our message. So, with that said, how do we emulate the proper attitude when the world is screaming in our ears that we need to be the best?
What does bestseller mean and is it lasting? A bestseller means a person’s book is doing well above the peers in that niche at that time. Is it lasting? No, so it’s best to concentrate on your message, market your book, and see where your writing journey takes you. It is the lives that we impact, not making the bestsellers list, that matters. Every book we sell is a bestseller because someone saw the value in our words enough to invest in it; therefore, a life changed.
Favor and Wealth Come From God
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17
We need to maintain the proper heart attitude. God is the one that gives us favor and the power to make wealth. Apart from Him, we can do nothing. So we have to stay connected to Him. Seeking him for direction and favor with our writing. He decides the scope of our influence. That being said, becoming a bestseller author is not far-fetched. But what makes a book sell? Diligence on our part as writers and marketers. We have to keep in mind that writing a book is just part of the process. Once the book is out there, just like a new baby, we have to nurture it, cherish it, and promote it so that others know it exists.
Meanwhile, we need to keep our hearts bent toward God, not fame and money, for our relationship with him is the most important part of our writing journey! We need to always keep in mind that each person who buys our book is a life changed by our words. Once again, that should be more exciting to us than hitting the bestseller list. With each book we write, we are perfecting our skill as writers ,and our message is becoming more refined.
Our Words
Second, we need to be careful with our words and what we are filling our minds with. It’s important to wallpaper our minds with truth. Especially when it feels like our books aren’t moving. When we recite God’s truth over our writing, we are inviting Him to get involved with our endeavors. For he is faithful to His word.
I highly suggest asking God for a verse that fits your writing and speaking it daily over your life. Keep focused on the truth, and don’t let other people’s successes dampen your mood. Keep the fire of your writing lit and trust God to place your books in the right hands as you pray, recite his word, and seek his direction. Knowing that in his time, your writing will be established.
Conclusion
Our success in this world is dependent on God. We don’t want to burn out because we overdid it trying to get to the top. We need to stay in sync with God and let him help us navigate this writing journey. Slow and steady is the best way to go. After all, it worked for the turtle. We don’t want to get ahead of God or his perfect timing. We don’t want to lose our passion, our fire for writing. Keep it slow and steady.
Pursue God and his direction as you work the steps to get your book out there and know that God is a rewarder of hard work. One day, you may just see your book on the bestsellers list! Just remember it’s the lives our words are impacting that matters.
