Notes from this episode:
As a writer, the struggle to keep your creativity flowing while also seeking guidance from God in the writing process can be difficult.
One of the things that will help is having artist dates. This idea was shared by Julia Cameron in her book, The Artist’s Way. She suggests refilling our creative well because when we keep writing without replenishing ourselves, we can hit a roadblock. Some suggestions for refilling your creative well are:
- Connecting with God in nature
- Taking a technology fast
- Reading other books to have information to pull from
Seeking guidance from God in the process is a focus for us at Christian Book Academy. We recommend having regular business meetings with God, which involves setting aside time to turn off all distractions and ask the Lord for guidance. We encourage you to keep showing up and asking the Lord. Even setting a timer for just one minute and asking God a specific question can bring clarity.
You can also try 15 minutes of journaling, allowing you to hear what God has to say. We also have resources on hearing God’s voice, and we encourage you to join us at christianbookacademy.com.
Go and refill your creativity well today. Take at least 5 minutes, set your timer, and do some journaling and connect with God to see what He says to you today about your writing.
