Notes from this episode:
Selling can be disingenuous and icky but selling is helping. You don’t have to use the same tactics that feel icky to you. If something feels off, you don’t have to do that. You get to choose your marketing techniques and marketing is really about relationships. It’s about connecting with your readers.
Even if you write fiction or children’s books, you can share the story of writing the book. The story of overcoming fear and doubt and all the things that you’ve done you can connect with people on a personal level.
Ask wisdom from God
First of all, ask God to help you change your view of marketing. Marketing is selling. Marketing is relationships. Instead of being the bullhorn on the corner of the sidewalk saying “Buy my book,” it’s like asking a friend, “Hey, would you like to come over for coffee and get to know one another?” You’re asking people for their permission to send them more information.
When someone signs up for your email list, they’re giving you permission to follow-up with you and they can always unsubscribe at any time. We’re giving them permission to be in our space.
Focus on marketing your book
You don’t have to be on video or have a podcast. You can focus most of your energy on Amazon ads, or search engine optimization. There are many ways to market a book. Another option is to do podcast interviews and just share your story, share your heart.
There are tons of training videos that can lead you through marketing and give you the exact steps, such as pitching podcasts, getting started with your 1st Amazon ad, or doing SEO research for your blog.
God wants this message to get out. You don’t have to give up our authenticity just to market a book. Selling is helping. Selling is serving. Don’t let doubts or fears hinder your progress.
