Notes from this episode:
It is a common challenge for many writers to stay consistent in writing during this busy time of the year. Whether you’re feeling guilty for not continuing your writing or struggling to find the time, we’ve got you covered.
Here are three tips on how to stay consistent in your writing during the holidays.
Take a Break
Sometimes, taking a break is necessary and completely okay. The fear of not being able to come back to writing after a break can be daunting, but simply setting a time frame for your break and asking God for guidance can help.
Pause for a moment, take a deep breath, and ask the Lord if you should take a break from writing during the holiday season, and if so, how long should it be? Trust that His answer will provide clarity.
Focus on Smaller Projects
Instead of tackling something that requires significant brainpower, work on smaller tasks that are quick and enjoyable. It could be creating a lead magnet for your email list, working on social media posts or graphics for Pinterest, or even writing a blog post.
Assess where you are in the writing process and what marketing platforms you already have, and choose a smaller project to work on. This way, you can still make progress without feeling overwhelmed.
Capture Ideas in Small Windows of Time
Instead of waiting for a dedicated writing session, use the snippets of time you have to jot down ideas or thoughts that come to mind. Whether it’s waiting in line at the grocery store or picking up your child from school, utilize your phone to send yourself an email or use a dictation app like Otter.ai to verbally capture content.
Find a method that works best for you, whether it’s typing on your phone or sending yourself text messages. The important thing is to capture those fleeting ideas wherever you are.
Get Accountability
Consider finding an accountability partner or joining a group to help you stay on track. If you’re interested, Christian Book Academy offers Progress Pods, a system designed to help writers finish and publish their books. These pods provide a supportive environment where you can share your next tiny step and make consistent progress each week.
Remember, it’s crucial to enjoy the holiday season and prioritize your relationships. While it’s important to continue writing, being present with your loved ones is equally significant. So find a balance between your writing goals and making lasting memories.
Allow yourself to embrace the joy of celebrating Jesus’ birth and the incredible blessings He has bestowed upon us.
