Are you able to take advice? Do you feel hurt when someone corrects you and tells you that there is a better way to do things?
You are not alone in that struggle. Sometimes, it is good to be wrong as we learn from these mistakes. However, our pride can get in our way. The bible says our pride comes before a fall and I do believe that’s often true.
What Happened When I Chose to Take Advice from My Husband
My husband, CJ, and I went camping and we stayed in a place where there was no electricity. I was determined that our battery operated pump would not work. I knew it was going to take forever to pump up, and it wasn’t enough to make our air mattress comfortable.
And therefore, we slept on the ground. It was so hard and every time we moved we’d wake up. We both did not get very good sleep and we woke up every few minutes.
We still had a great weekend, but we definitely didn’t have a great night of sleep.
Then, the next weekend, we went camping again. This place did not have electricity as well. Again, I was determined that the pump will not work.
But CJ insisted that we will have to try and see if it will work or not because he is not sleeping on the ground again.
So I told myself “Okay, if I want to keep going camping I need to see if I can make this work.” I got out my battery-operated pump and wouldn’t you know it, it worked!
I was so glad I was wrong and that I listened to CJ because we had a great night of sleep.
So I want to ask you today and encourage you today to consider what others have to say.
Listen to those that you trust – your mentors and your coaches. When you do, you might just get a better night of sleep.
