It finally happened.
I got my first two-star review on my podcast, Author Audience. He said there wasn’t much substance to what I teach. He also recommended a different podcast instead.
Welcome Bad Reviews
I’m actually okay with a few bad reviews as I know my show is not the right fit for every author.
HOWEVER, another reviewer mentioned how I helped her publish her Kindle book.
Woo Hoo!
This is the second person in a two-day period who told me I helped them publish their book. And yet neither of them is a paying customer of mine or a member of Author Audience Academy.
They accomplished this simply by using my free content. Double Woo Hoo!!
One of my top love languages is words of affirmation. So it means the world to me to know that I’m making a difference in someone’s life.
By the way, have you read the book “Five Love Languages?” If not, I highly recommend it. It can help you in all relationships in your life.
Because you’re reading my blog, we have a relationship. For me, relationships are the foundation of all marketing. I teach that in my Amplify Your Message webinar.
I’d Love to Hear from You
So, today I’d like to ask you a quick favor. If you are one of my podcast listeners or enjoy the content I create for you on my videos and blog, would you take 30 seconds and post a review on iTunes?
I love reading your feedback (especially on how a specific episode impacted you). It fuels me to create more training for you. Thank you in advance!
Believe it or not, I’m getting ready to meet with a jewelry designer. We may be creating some custom jewelry to go with my book “Broken Crayons Still Color.”
This book has taken me way out of my comfort zone and has caused me to do so many new things. But, that only benefits you as I will continue to share what I learn.
I post the most details inside my private group for Author Audience Academy members. Just last night, I shared an advanced strategy I’m using for this book. Fun stuff!
By the way, many authors email me and ask how to post a review on iTunes. So I created a step-by-step tutorial here: http://www.shelleyhitz.com/how-to-review-a-podcast-in-itunes
End Note
As an author, you will also have to face bad reviews at some point. We all get them. Even the best authors have 1 and 2-star reviews.
My advice?
As long as your good reviews outweigh your bad reviews, I wouldn’t worry about them. Everyone has an opinion and there will definitely be some people who don’t like your writing.
Be a magnet! Attract your ideal audience and repel everyone else away. In the meantime, those who aren’t in your target audience may leave a bad review and that’s okay.
Keep writing, improve your craft, and let your light SHINE!
