Notes from this episode:
What to expect once my book is released? This is a big question, especially for first-time authors. You dedicate so much time and energy to getting the project finished and published that you often don’t think much about what happens after that.
We identified five phases for you.
- Get the ugly, messy first draft out of your head and onto paper.
- Finalize the draft by self-editing and hiring a professional editor.
- Self-publish or work with a publishing company to get your book published.
- Plan and execute your book launch, which can be a big event or a soft launch involving friends and family.
- Ongoing marketing to impact lives and continue to promote your book.
It’s essential to think of your book as if you’re birthing a baby—there’s a process of pregnancy, birthing, and parenting. Your book launch and ongoing marketing are how you steward the message that God has given you.
After the book launch, it’s common to experience post-launch blues. It’s essential not to get discouraged and take some time with the Lord to rest and rejuvenate. Resting doesn’t mean quitting; it’s part of the process.
We encourage you to do a launch, even if it’s with your close family and friends. Remember that this journey is a marathon, not a sprint.
Stay encouraged and keep writing!
