book launch mistake

When you are having a book launch, there are definitely things you want to do.  However, I want you to avoid one very important book launch mistake.  I will share more in this post.

Planning a book launch can be a little bit overwhelming. I’m in the middle of a book launch right now for this book, Build and Grow Your Author Platform.

Though I have been doing book launches since 2008, this one is different. It is a book launch outside the box. And I realized that I might have made a book launch mistake!

Let me share with you these things that I have learned which I believe is important for your next book launch.

Don’t Make It Too Confusing

I know that you are excited to launch your new book and let people know about it.

You may start planning and end up doing too many things at the same time.

Most likely, if you give too many steps and instructions your audience will end up confused.

I’m using Facebook Live to broadcast my five day author platform challenge. It’s a free challenge where people can sign up at ShelleyHitz.com/PlatformChallenge. However, I have been receiving emails and messages on Facebook about where to watch the videos and where the replays are.

They are confused.

I have learned then that if you have too many steps, too many things going on, too much to do, and too many calls to action, it can actually be kind of confusing.

So a tip from me to you; don’t make it too confusing.

Different activities during a book launch can be fun. However, you have to make sure that you have one main call to action (CTA).

Define Your Target Audience

Defining their target audience is a missing link for many authors.

Everyone may be able to read your book, but you need to narrow down who your target audience is.

It’s going to make your marketing so much easier.

You can easily compose email messages, Facebook posts, tweets and blog contents that will be accurate for the target audience.

It is actually fun as you have an idea of who you are talking to and can adjust your marketing accordingly.

This is something I’m really excited to share with you about. I know that it would be such a big help for you.

In day 2 of my 5-Day Author Platform Challenge, I give you step-by-step instructions on how to define your target audience and also share a real-life case study.

During one of my one-on-one consultations with a client, we were able to clearly define his target audience in about 45 minutes. We went from everyone in the self-help world to a very tight niche that he’s really passionate about.

Be sure to know who you are talking to. That will definitely make your author life so much easier.

Make It Interesting and Interactive

book launch mistakeMaking your book launch crystal clear and narrowed to a certain audience does not mean you have to take fun away from it.

With the main purpose of introducing your new book to the target market, you have to make your platform interesting and attention-grabbing.

With the advent of the internet and new technology, you can actually find different means to create an interesting book launch.

As for me, I decided to use Facebook Live for my latest book launch as it is both interactive and personalized.

I am hosting the replays in my members’ area and am doing this to promote my book and a book launch. I also have a photo contest, and if they buy the print book and post a picture, they can get a $47 training.

I think that I might have done a little too much with this launch. It does seem like people are a little bit confused.

But it’s fun!

So my point is, you don’t have to do all of these things at one time.

You just have to choose one or two activities. Or roll them out one at a time.

Conclusion

Lastly, let me remind you one more time. Be careful about making things too complicated.

The simpler you can make your book launch, the better. When you have too many things going on, people get confused.

A confused mind says no, that’s basic marketing.

I hope that I see you on the inside of the challenge at ShelleyHitz.com/PlatformChallenge.
