Notes from this episode:

As writers, there are things that can stand in the way of seeing the breakthrough of finishing our book.

Sometimes there’s an absolute desperation on our part. There are times we can get a little crazy after exhausting all other options.

But when we encounter Jesus, breakthroughs are possible…

Mark 2:1-12

Imagine the testimony of this paralyzed man. He was lowered through a hole in the roof by his friends but walked out the front door under his own power after encountering Jesus.

Sometimes we have to get a little crazy as we find our way around the “crowds” of things that keep us from Jesus.

Desperation sometimes comes after we’ve exhausted other options that haven’t worked (example: woman with the blood issue touching the hem of Jesus’s garment – Mark 5).

This paralyzed man had 4 good friends who helped him. Can you think of 4 people willing to carry you and your book to Jesus in prayer?

“Stunned onlookers” were praising God in verse 12. Our books can have a similar effect as a testimony to God’s work in our lives

Have you felt paralyzed in your writing? Jesus brings life and movement to things that have long been paralyzed.

Here are some recommendations if you get desperate. Decide if you will:

  • Turn off your phone or all the notifications so you won’t get distracted.
  • Take a social media fast for a month so you could finish writing your book.
  • Reserve a hotel room or go somewhere so you have undistracted time to work on your book.
  • Have a week’s vacation and focus on writing your book.
  • Form a small prayer team that will pray for you while you write.

So what might it look like for you?

I’m sorry religion has nothing to do with my writing.

Ronald – thanks for sharing. We do incorporate our faith into our training but I think you’ll still find a lot of helpful information for your writing.

I am in tears. This morning I received an email which said I had a critique on a piece of writing I did back in 2018. This also enabled me to see other critiques on more things I had written. It was so encouraging. As I got up from breakfast I have nothing planned for the day except Pilates class. I thought I could do some writing but dismissed that thought. However it made me realize that I don’t believe I am a ‘writer’. Even though there is a fat folder of poems, puppet plays my husband and I performed for aged care facilities, skits, etc. There’s an unedited story of my abortion experience from years ago.
CJ while you were reading the story of the man being lowered down it came to me that my accountability partners are gradually doing the same for me. As you were praying the Lord was working and my supportive husband came into the study finding me crying. You have both been instrumental in a breakthrough. I will from now on declare I AM A WRITER FOR CHRIST!!!!
Thank you for the great an blessed work you do through CBA with grateful love Linda

A couple of weeks ago I went to Costa Rica to visit my wife’s family get my dental work done and just relax. We choose to not watch any tv or check our social media accounts and turn off our cell phones (except in special needs). It took about a day and a half to start to see the difference. As far as the pandemic was concerned everyone was on the same page it wasn’t a political issue but a nation wide health issue. People who forgot to put on their mask were politely asked to put one on and they would quickly and politely do so. No I’m special etc. My wife and I were so relaxed I went out by the pool got a fresh cup of coffee and some mango and avocado slices and started my long lost project of writing a book about hospital stays for seniors. Which is why I’m here.
