Is Video Marketing the New Way to Go on Tour?

More and more I’m hearing of authors who try their hand at live events saying that they feel like they have wasted their time. They spent 5 hours sitting behind a table and only sold one book. They spent their time at the library or book store and read their book to a group of people, only to leave with everything they carried in. They set up a booth only to have passerby’s eat their free candy, pick up a bookmark, or chitchat, and then move on.

If you are an author who thrives on meeting new people, events can be fabulous… or they can be a huge let down.

So what’s an author to do?

We can’t really make a living giving away bookmarks and chatting with passersby.

Video marketing allows you to go all around the world without leaving the comfort of your own home.

You can still invite your readers to attend a book reading – and you can either read the book in front of your webcam for an online only event, or take a camera to the library and have your in-person event double as an online event for those who live far away.

You can meet with a book club in California, Main, and Florida – all in the same day.

More readers will be able to make it since distance is no longer a problem.

There are no travel expenses involved in video events.

But the best part of video marketing?

It keeps going. Instead of packing up your books at the end of the day and calling it a wrap, your video can stay online and continue to market your book for you while you head off to your next event, take a break, or write your next book.

In the old days, authors would go on a book tour. Visiting different book stores, coffee shops and libraries to promote their new books. It made for a hectic week or two and when it was over, it was over. Using videos to meet your readers takes far less time and energy as you can meet with all of them at once, provide 3 different sessions to meet more peoples availability, and offer the replay free online for those who can’t make it. Video marketing gives authors and readers more flexibility, and with it’s long lasting effects, what author wouldn’t want to try it?

Don’t think you can do it? Check out this video I made this morning (in just 15 minutes with free software):

I hope you’ll join us tonight at 8PM Eastern time as we get together with Video Marketing Maven, Katie Davis. She’s going to be sharing different ways you can use videos to promote you and your books, as well as easy ways to create your own videos.
