Clearing the Clutter
Sometimes we need to clear out the clutter in our minds in order to get our book done.
This starts with clarity and strategy. That’s where Plan It Day, a training inside Author Audience Academy, can help you.
Goal Setting and Accountability
Goal setting and accountability have set me on a path to success in my business over the last few years.
I have set up a system in Author Audience Academy for my members to set 90 day goals and get accountability.
Every Monday in our Facebook group we have a Monday Motivator post and on that post, I ask my members to share their Take Action Plans, their goals for that week.
It excites me to see the goals they’re setting every single week and the action they are taking. I am very proud of them.
I do it too. Every Monday, I also post my goals for the week. I don’t ask you to do something that I’m not already doing myself.
Then, on Friday, I check in and ask “how did your week go?” It’s built-in accountability.
It is amazing to see the progress my members are making each week.
What to Do When You Fall Short of Your Goals?
Last week I had set my goals in the Monday Motivator post inside the Author Audience Academy private Facebook group. Friday came and I had only accomplished half of my goals.
If something like this happens, simply choose to pivot and shift. You can put the goals you didn’t achieve onto your list for the next week.
However, I knew I was going to have to answer to all my members and share whether or not I had completed my goals.
So, I began working through the rest of my goals. There were two things I didn’t finish and I told them, “they’re in process, but I didn’t finish them yet.”
I’m happy to report by Saturday I was able to get both of the tasks done.
That’s the power of setting goals and having accountability.
It’s not about taking a big leap; it’s about continuing to inch forward, to make progress every single week towards your goals.
To be able to move forward and see results, you have to;
- Be focused
- Have clarity
- Have an overall strategy
- Set your breakthrough 90-day goal
- Choose to not follow the bright shiny objects
I was so excited to see one of my members, Sharon, post in the group recently that she finally published her book on Kindle.
She’s been struggling at times and working through each step, but she did it! She crossed the finish line and she’s so excited! I am too!
Writing Out Your Goals and Having Accountability
So what is it that you need to get done this week on your book project? Write out your goals.
If you’re an Author Audience Academy Member go into our group, find the Monday Motivator post for this week and write your goals so I can help keep you accountable. That’s part of the value you get inside Author Audience Academy.
Once you have your goals, you can continue to work towards them little by little until you finally achieve them.
- Have my big, breakthrough 90-day goal. This is the goal that will usually give me the biggest results.
- Then I will set monthly and weekly goals.
- I post my weekly goals inside the Author Audience Academy Facebook group in the Monday Motivator post.
- Every day I look at what my goals are for that week and say, “OK, what do I need to get done today to ensure that I’m able to reach the finish line for this week?”
So that’s how I do it. But you have to find the system that works best for you.
Everyone is different and has a different personality. The biggest thing is to actually do it – set your goals and write them out. Write them out on paper, it is so powerful.
I remember I set an income goal that felt big for the first quarter of this year. But when I did our accounting, I realized we met that goal.
And it was like, “Whoa! Wow!” This stuff works!
It works because I worked it. I set a strategy, worked the plan, and we met the goal.
It was so exciting to see when you write something out and then you start working out that plan every week, every day, how your goals can then come into completion and happen.
I want you to reach your goals and cross the finish line. It comes down to having strategy and being very clear on where you’re headed. This helps avoid confusion.
Then, begin to work towards your plan with very specific goals each week and each day.
Conclusion
I’m going to close with this encouragement – never, never, never give up.
You may feel like you are stuck, overwhelmed, and you don’t know what’s step to take next.
But I encourage you to simply keep taking the next right step.
- That’s the power in goals and accountability.
- That’s the power in getting clear and having strategy.
- That’s the power in having a coach.
I would be honored to serve you as your author coach inside AuthorAudienceAcademy.com.
